Maui Vacation - June 4 - 13

We headed to Maui on Thursday, June 4. We arrived in the afternoon and headed straight to our hotel, The Mauian. They remodeled. It used to be one step above camping . . . now it is at least three steps above camping. No, really it is a great little hotel that we love. After we checked in, we headed straight to the beach. We were so happy to be back at the beach. After we played in the ocean for a while, we went to Maui Tacos for dinner. Then, we grocery shopped for the week at the Napili Market.

Friday: we played all day at the beach. The waves were calm and relaxing. We went to Lahaina for the evening. We first stopped at Cheeseburger in Paradise for dinner. Yum! We window shopped and went to a few art galleries. Tony bought me a new necklace charm and Heather got a black pearl pendant. We also had ice cream at Cold Stone. Heather had to have her ice cream fix.

Saturday: We spent the day at the beach. We went to the new Outback for dinner across from the Cannery Mall. Since Barnes & Noble was right next door, we couldn't resist going to check it out and getting new books. Also, since Baskin Robbins was right there too, we stopped for M&M and Snickers sundaes. That made Heather happy. Yum!

Sunday: We went to church, but left early because I thought I was going to die of heat stroke! Next time, we are sitting by the fans. Afterwards, we enjoyed the beach a bit, and then went on a drive to see the Nakalele Blowhole. Because of the high tide, it provided a GREAT show.
We also drove to Kahakuloa Village to get some shave ice/banana bread from Lorraine.
On the way back, we went to the Honolua Store for dinner.

Monday: We spent the day at the beach. The waves really picked up and we had a lot of fun body surfing. We went back to the bookstore and Baskin Robbins.

Tuesday: The only thing Heather wanted to do on this trip was parasail. We tried to go parasailing, but it was too windy. Bummer! We went back to our beach and played. The waves were huge and stayed huge the rest of the trip!

Wednesday: I woke up early to stand in line at the Gazebo for breakfast. Nothing is better than their fried rice and macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup. We tried to go parasailing again, but it was too windy. Bummer! Heather was so disappointed that the parasailing thing wasn't going to work out this trip. We went back to our beach to play. Later, as a consolation prize, we went back to the bookstore to buy Heather a book. We had a yummy dinner at the Seahouse. This was the day we received the news that Jolene had died. What a sad time for us and our family. It was especially hard since we were so far away. From the beginning of our trip, we went through the motions of trying to have a good time, but we were so sad knowing that Jolene could die at any time. How could we possibly be enjoying ourselves when people we love were suffering? There was some stress that the funeral was going to be on Saturday . . . the day we were supposed to fly home. We were so relieved when the funeral was set for the following Monday.

Thursday: Went on a morning snorkle trip to Lanai and Coconut Beach. We also did a "blue water" snorkle. They stopped between Lanai and Maui and let us jump in. There was nothing to see but clear blue water. In the afternoon, we sat at our beach. We went to the Honolua Store for burgers.

Friday: Our last day was spent . . . you guessed it . . . at the beach! The last day of vacation is always so hard. It goes by WAY too fast. We went to Lahaina and bought a slipper charm for Heather. We ate yucky pizza and then had one last sundae at Baskin Robbins.

Saturday: We spent the day traveling back home so we could repack and travel to Salt Lake to attend Jolene's funeral. We arrived home at 1:30 AM on Sunday.

We love Maui and plan to go back again soon!
